The Ripple Effect:
What the Supreme Court’s Broker Liability Ruling Means for Freight
The freight industry is still processing the impact of the recent Supreme Court ruling in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC surrounding broker liability and negligent carrier selection.
Rather than approaching this as a traditional panel discussion, this session is designed as an interactive, multi-perspective conversation focused on what the ruling may mean for the future of doing business in freight.
The session will feature a short recorded legal perspective from transportation attorney Matthew Leffler, followed by additional industry viewpoints exploring the broader operational, reputational, communications, and business implications of the ruling. Following each segment, TMSA Executive Director Jennifer Karpus-Romain will lead a live moderated discussion and audience Q&A with transportation and logistics leaders to unpack the conversation in real time.
Together, the session will explore:
-
What the Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC ruling actually means from a legal perspective
-
How conversations around risk, accountability, and carrier reputation may evolve
-
Changing expectations around carrier qualification and operational visibility
-
How organizations may need to approach messaging and customer communication during periods of uncertainty,
-
How shippers and customers may respond
-
What sales, marketing, operations, communications, and leadership teams should be preparing for next
This will be a discussion around trust, risk, reputation, and how organizations across the freight industry may need to adapt moving forward.
